Dr. Andrew Newton - Psychiatrist Caring for the Underserved

A psychiatrist based in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, Dr. Andrew Newton began his career in this field in 1998 after finishing his residency. Since that time, Dr. Andrew Newton has spent much of his career treating underserved communities in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Newton finished his residency with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 1998, and subsequently opened his own practice, Newton Psychiatric Clinic, LLC. As medical director and owner, he has worked in various roles with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Ashland Regional Medical Center, Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, and Safety Net Counseling, among other organizations. While he worked with the state department of corrections, he did not become a chief regional psychiatrist until 2015.

Dr. Newton's specializations include acute general adult psychiatry, inpatient/outpatient psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry and research, forensic psychiatry, and addiction psychiatry. While working patients in the correctional system, his focus was addiction medicine and treatment and using trans-magnetic stimulation in treating resistant depression. Additionally, he gives educational lectures to patient groups and hospital staff related to managing mental health problems.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Newton is involved with the psychiatric community. This includes being a fellow of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland, and being a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Medical Association, the British Medical Association, and the Pennsylvania Society of Medicine.
